Research shows that students who participate in horseback riding programs can experience physical, mental and emotional rewards. Flexibility, balance and muscle strength show improvement. The relationship between the horse and rider can increase confidence, patience and self-esteem. Riding stimulates senses through touch and the environment. Our equine facilitated activities incorporate the experience of interaction between the horse and rider in an environment of exercise, learning, and self-discovery. Through the use of the horse and pony the rider learns the power of ability, adaptability, and respect. As a classroom group exercise, the student learns to practice control by taking turns, waiting, and safely following directions.
Important fundamental life skills are learned when caring for, handling and riding horses, such as: empathy, patience, confidence, forethought, control of one's emotions and providing the rider with an amazing feeling of accomplishment and pride. Riding also has great physical benefits: it is fun exercise and improves balance and coordination no matter your age or experience. Lessons can be taken on your horse or one of our wonderful ponies/horses. Ages 3 and up are welcome. Beginner to competitive riders benefit from our riding programs. Lessons are provided at an additional cost at McKie Equine.
